HITT organizes relief effort for tornado survivors in Tuscaloosa, AL

Please join with the Hippodrome Theatre’s HITT students in a relief effort to help the survivors of the devastating tornados that hit southern Alabama last week.
“Authorities are still sifting through the destruction from an 80-mile-long, 1.5-mile-tornado that tore through Tuscaloosa and Birmingham in central Alabama, killing at least 65 people and injuring more than 1,000.” – The Wall Street Journal online, May 2.
HITT staff have spoken directly with relief workers in a county-operated shelter in Tuscaloosa to find out what is needed most. , AL
Items in greatest demand:
- Laundry detergent
- Toiletries – toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, soap, hand sanitizer, lotion
- Flashlights & batteries
- Baby items – diapers, baby wipes, jar food, powdered formula
- School supplies
- Bottled water
- Non-perishable foods
Also gladly accepting new or gently used:
- Clothing – baby, child & adult
- Toys
- Books
- Blankets
- Tarps
Donation drop-off information:
At the Hippodrome Theatre: Tues, May 3 – Thurs, May 5. 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Donations must be received by: Thursday, May 5th at 5:00pm
Your donations will be delivered by HITT staff on Friday, May 6th directly to: Tuscaloosa County Parks & Recreation Authority, Temporary Emergency Services, 1705 15th Street, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401
