On April 11th, a group of HITT teens from Hoggetowne Middle School presented two scenes and several theatre exercises focusing on bullying for students at Duval Elementary.
The class presented the two scenes in the form of Forum Theatre, made popular by the late Augusto Boal. In this process, audience members could stop a performance in which a character is being oppressed in some way (i.e. the bullying). A audience memeber could then ‘freeze’ the scene and would suggest different actions for the actors to carry out on-stage in an attempt to change the outcome of what they were seeing by going on stage and becoming the character they wish to embody, thus becoming a ‘spec-actor.’
